Replit's blog leads our 20-domain index at 62.5% stale-claim rate. Every post that cites it inherits the rot.

This is SaaS blog stale data ranked: a SaaS blog citation audit of 941 dated factual claims across 20 domains, scanned on 2026-04-09. The stale-claim rate is the share of those claims that fail re-verification at scan time. Median came in at 18.35%. The brands at the top are the brands SaaS marketers reach for when they need a stat.

This is not a list of laggards. It is a map of where citation hygiene breaks under load.

Cite Replit's blog for a recent statistic and your post inherits a 62.5% probability that the claim has decayed. Following the link does not refresh the timer; the cite ages with the source.

The 941 Claims, Sampled the Same Way for Every Domain

The Dataset: 941 Claims, 140 Posts, 20 Domains

Our scanner pulled seven posts per domain across 20 SaaS blogs in the marketing-and-content niche, sampled by traffic and recency. That produced 140 posts and 941 dated factual claims, each resolved to its cited or implied source. The dataset is small enough to verify by hand and large enough to rank.

A sibling post, the 868-claim study we ran earlier this month, reports 868 because it filters out first-party operational claims where a brand quotes its own pricing or product data. The 941 figure is the full dataset; the index uses it because domain-level hygiene includes how a brand handles its own claims.

Seven Posts per Domain, Applied Identically to Every Blog

Seven posts per domain is the comparability budget: the smallest sample that holds sample shape constant across 20 brands without overweighting any one publisher. The denominator and the audit window are applied identically to every blog. We disclose the updated-post count alongside each row so 7-of-7 (Cloudflare) reads differently from 0-of-7 (Stripe).

Staleness-Risk Scoring

A claim fails re-verification when the original assertion no longer holds against its source. A domain's stale-claim rate is its count of failed claims divided by claims with verifiable dates. The Top of the Table

The Bottom of the Table Reflects Newness

OpenAI and Webflow tie at 0%. Canny is at 1.8%, CrazyEgg at 2.2%, Buffer at 4.3%. None of these readings reflect a maintenance program.

They reflect newness.

OpenAI's sampled posts are all from the last twelve months. Buffer's have not been touched and have aged below the threshold where re-verification fails. A 0% rate is proof of newness, nothing more. Brands that show stewardship under load sit further up the ranking.

Webflow is the partial exception: 4 of 7 posts updated and zero stale claims at re-verification. That is what claim-level maintenance looks like when it works.

What the Top 5 Get Wrong

Updates Do Not Move the Freshness Needle

Stripe updated zero of seven sampled posts and runs 23.5%; Replit updated three and runs 62.5%. Two brands sitting close on the cadence axis, forty points apart on the freshness axis. Whatever Replit was doing when it touched those three posts, it was not closing claims.

Update activity and claim freshness are independent variables. A team can ship a content refresh and change the byline date while every dated number from 2022 stays in place. The post is updated; the claims inside sit untouched.

The Cloudflare 7-of-7 Paradox

Cloudflare updated all seven of its sampled posts and still ran 29.5%. That is the cleanest demonstration of freshness theater in the dataset: a content program touches every post in its archive on a measurable cadence and produces a stale-claim rate three times the floor of the index. The audit found dozens of paragraphs rewritten in the last six months. The cited statistics inside them traced back to studies that had been superseded or republished with different numbers.

The freshness gap between Cloudflare's cadence and its rate tracks something other than cadence.

The Ranking Moves

The audit is a snapshot. We re-run it on a fixed cadence, and the top of the table moves.

Living Content

A moving top of the table is not a cosmetic detail. When the leader changes between scans, the citation flow that anchored on the old leader does not stop; it shifts to whichever brand now sits at the top, and every post that cited the old leader keeps inheriting the rate that brand carried at the moment of citation. The risk does not refresh when the chart does. Citing posts age with the source they linked to, on the day they linked, regardless of what the ranking does later.

However the ranking moves, the mechanic survives: the top of the table is the part of the niche that gets cited most, and the cite chooses the brand, not the freshness.

Why Citation Hygiene Compounds

A citation's half-life is shorter than the post's. A team citing Replit for a recent statistic does more than borrow a number; it anchors its own post's freshness to someone else's claim.

Run that arithmetic across a niche and citations become a debt market. Every cited claim is a frozen liability sitting on a balance sheet the citing brand does not maintain. The numbers sit inside paragraphs whose prose still reads coherent, still ranks, and still misleads. Those are zombie statistics, and every inbound citation re-anchors them.

Compounding gets worse at scale. A claim cited by 30 posts decays once at the source and 30 times at the inheritance layer. SaaS Blog Stale Data Ranked Starts With Your Own Domain

The 20-domain citation hygiene index is a snapshot of brands large enough to draw audit interest. Most SaaS marketing blogs never show up on a peer's industry survey. The same mechanics apply at any scale; a 50-post blog can run a higher stale-claim rate than Replit and never know it.

Whatever number the scanner returns, it is a coordinate. A 22% stale-claim rate is the niche median. A 4% rate looks healthy and usually means the blog has not aged enough to decay yet.

The score is a coordinate; the dial sits one layer below it.

The dial is the unit being tracked. A blog that tracks posts can ship updates every quarter without closing a single claim from 2022. A blog that tracks claims cannot. The index above, paired with its living content variant, is the first ranking that holds the distinction visible long enough to act on. The dial you have been turning is not the dial that controls the outcome. The dial that controls it lives at the claim level, not the post level.
